The New Student Orientation consists of two days of placement testing and an overview of the ELTI program and UNC Charlotte. Students meet the administrative staff, lecturers and student volunteers, who serve as cultural informants and translators. A campus tour and lunch is also provided. Orientation topics to help new students acclimate are program policies, immigration regulations, payment deadlines, healthcare, immunizations, student activities, and safety. These topics are expanded during the two days of orientation and into a mandatory extended orientation. Students attend a computer-training workshop to set up their campus accounts and learn how to access them. Students also have the option of attending a city tour and shopping trip.
All ELTI students have full access to ELTI activities as well as UNC Charlotte student clubs, events and facilities. For examples of the types of activities and opportunities available, see Student Activities.
